Samsung seeks US probe of rival Sharp

Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it filed a complaint with American authorities over alleged unfair trade practices by Japanese rival Sharp Corp., fueling an intensifying legal battle over flat panel technology.

Samsung said in a statement that it filed the complaint with the United States International Trade Commission on Dec. 21, claiming that Sharp and two U.S. subsidiaries imported and sold liquid crystal display products that infringe on four of Samsung's U.S. patents.

The complaint came after Sharp earlier this month sued Samsung in a South Korean court, also alleging patent violations for LCDs. It demanded damages and a halt to manufacturing and sales of affected TVs and display panels.

In August, Sharp filed a similar lawsuit against Samsung in federal court in the U.S. state of Texas. Samsung said Thursday it was pursuing federal lawsuits in Texas and Delaware against Sharp.

The string of lawsuits between the two companies — two of the world's biggest makers of LCD panels — highlight the bruising competition to develop better technology for products like hot-selling flat screen TVs.

Technology unites kin, GIs on holidays

Wendy Derkits stood in front of the camera to deliver a holiday message thousands of miles away. She wanted to tell her husband at war that she loved him and wish him a Merry Christmas, but with the camera running and people watching, her words were replaced by tears.

Hours later, she sat in her living room trying to figure out how to tell her Marine husband what she wanted him to hear.

So she set up her own video camera and just started to talk, telling him everything a wife tells a husband: about their children, the family, their Christmas plans. She showed him the house, the tree and the decorations.

"It was an hour of nothingness. But it was me, normal. Me, everyday. He doesn't need to remember me sad and crying. That's not what he needs. He needs regular me," said Derkits, 24, of Oceanside.

For some Marines and soldiers, this is their first Christmas away from family. For others, it is a second, third or fourth missed holiday season — a reality of a country at war.

But unlike wars past, nearly every deployed military personnel will have an opportunity to connect with loved ones: From sending Christmas wishes in a video message to participating in a two-way videoconference or using a Web cam.

Software maker Oracle churns out profit

The economy may be sputtering, but Oracle Corp. is still hitting on all cylinders. Brushing aside worries about a possible slowdown in the technology sector, Oracle soared well beyond analyst expectations in its fiscal second quarter and raised hopes for a strong start in 2008 with an upbeat forecast.

The results released late Wednesday drove up Oracle's stock price by more than 6 percent.

Now the big question is whether Oracle's performance and bullish outlook should be interpreted as a positive sign for the entire technology industry.

Some analysts aren't ready to leap to the conclusion, reasoning that Oracle is simply outsmarting and out-hustling its competition. "It would be inappropriate to think that just because Oracle is doing well, the rest of the industry is too," said Cowen and Co. analyst Peter Goldmacher.

IRobot gets $286M Army robotics contract

IRobot Corp. won a $286 million contract to supply the U.S. Army with bomb-disarming robots, wresting the deal from a smaller rival that iRobot claimed stole its trade secrets.

Shares of iRobot rose nearly 4 percent after Tuesday's announcement of a deal to supply up to 3,000 of a new, smaller and lighter version of iRobot's track-wheeled PackBot. The contract also requires iRobot to provide spare parts, training and repair services over five years.

After rising as high as $19.50 Tuesday morning, shares of iRobot were up 68 cents to $17.87 at midday.

Burlington-based iRobot, which also makes consumer robots such as Roomba vacuum cleaners, said it would immediately deliver the first 101 robots to the Army for rapid deployment.

IRobot already has delivered more than 1,200 PackBots, which have disarmed roadside bombs and searched caves and buildings in Iraq and Afghanistan. Some scout dangerous areas before soldiers or emergency responders go in.

News of the day: About 1 in 5 IBM employees now in India

IBM Corp.'s expansion in developing countries shows no sign of relenting. The technology company revealed Friday that it now has 73,000 employees in India, almost a 40 percent leap from last year.

IBM did not provide updated figures for its work force in the U.S., which has held steady around 125,000 people in recent years.

Nor did IBM project its total head count. It had 355,766 employees worldwide at the end of 2006.

If the total has risen by the same rate as in 2006, almost one in five IBM workers now is in India, its second-largest center.

Like many other technology providers, IBM has rushed to take advantage of the lower labor costs India offers even for highly skilled workers. IBM's base in India numbered only 9,000 people in 2003, but it was about 53,000 last year.

An eel to light a Christmas tree??!!

Japan eel wishes you an electric Christmas

Not even a blackout could put a damper on festivities at one Japanese aquarium where an electric eel is being used to light up its Christmas tree.

Two aluminum panels inside the eel's tank work as electrodes to catch its power. Cables attached to the panels supply the lights on the nearby tree with electricity.

Inventor Kazuhiko Minawa said it took him more than a month to devise a system that would effectively harness eel power.

"If we could gather all electric eels from all around the world, we would be able to light up an unimaginably giant Christmas tree," Minawa told Reuters Television.

I really thought that this was the REAL EEL, haha. I was even imagining that they had probably trained the eel..haha, I was so silly. Nice idea though..

IBM wins order from Vodafone's India arm

Vodafone's Indian joint venture is transferring all of its information technology-related work to IBM Corp. under a 5-year contract that will reduce costs and improve services, the company said Monday.

The company did not disclose the deal's value, but IBM said a similar contract earlier this year from Idea Cellular, whose network and subscriber base is half that of Vodafone Essar Ltd., is expected to be worth between $600 million and $800 million over 10 years.

Vodafone Essar is India's fourth-largest cellular phone company, in which the British company acquired a controlling stake for $10.9 billion in May.

Mo. police probe blog in Web hoax case

A woman linked to an online hoax played on a 13-year-old girl who committed suicide and has been vilified for it may be the subject of a deception — someone on the Internet is posing as her and blogging about the case.

Lori Drew's attorney said Friday that she is not the writer. The St. Charles County sheriff's department is investigating who is behind the blog postings on Blogger.com to see if a crime has been committed, a spokesman said.

The family believes the postings are an effort to damage its reputation following the death of the Megan Meier.

"Any Internet message that purports to be a member of the Drew family is being managed by an impostor and undoubtedly is being done for the purpose of further damaging the Drews' reputation," the family said in a statement.

NYC doorman suspended for bad breath

A Manhattan doorman has been suspended for having bad breath. Jonah Seeman, who has been ushering tenants into a four-building complex on East 89th Street for 40 years, was told not to come to work Friday because of halitosis.

Seeman said he has stopped eating garlic, uses mouthwash and takes breath mints on the job.

The Brooklyn resident, who supports his 81-year-old mother, has been suspended twice before for bad breath — one day in May and then again in July.

Apartment dwellers at the Gracie Gardens complex expressed surprise over Seeman's suspension and came to his defense.

Record-size spitting cobra found in Kenya

A new species of giant spitting cobra, measuring nearly nine feet and possessing enough venom to kill at least 15 people, has been discovered in Kenya, a conservation group said on Friday.

WildlifeDirect said the cobras were the world's largest and had been identified as unique. The species has been named Naja Ashei after James Ashe, who founded Bio-Ken snake farm on Kenya's tropical coast where the gigantic serpents are found.

"A new species of giant spitting cobra is exciting and reinforces the obvious -- that there have to be many other unreported species but hundreds are being lost as their habitats disappear under the continued mismanagement of our planet," said the group's chairman, Kenyan environmentalist Richard Leakey.

Getting an insurance is very important!

Getting a life insurance is VERY important, even health insurance, Home insurance, Car insurance or any insurances that can help us especially in times of need. Accidents and incidents happen in a snap and if we don't have insurance, who will help us to pay those unexpected bills?

When I needed a wisdom teeth extraction, we only paid (out of the pocket) 20% of the total bill because we have a dental insurance that took care of most of the bills. So if you don't have any insurances why not get one. It's easy to apply and you know for sure that you need to protect your family.

Economy may slow tech industry's growth

Weakness in the U.S. economy figures to take a bite out of the technology industry's growth rate in 2008, when analysts expect tech spending to slow around the world.

The picture is not exactly dire: A forecast released Thursday by analyst firm IDC calls for the worldwide information-technology market to grow 5.5 percent to 6 percent in 2008, the lower end of what has become a usual range. In the U.S., the market is expected to expand 3 percent to 4 percent.

Those growth rates are softer than this year's 6.9 percent worldwide expansion and 6.6 percent growth in the U.S., according to IDC.

Just a few months ago, IDC was expecting the U.S. tech market to grow 5.5 percent in 2008. The company pushed its estimate down to 3 percent to 4 percent as the mortgage crisis heightened and rising high oil prices enhanced the prospect of a recession next year, IDC senior researcher Frank Gens Sr. said.

Our tech guide for today: Hands-on with the Xbox 360 Fall Update

First, let's tackle the IPTV news. We first heard way back in January that Microsoft wanted to turn the Xbox 360 into an set-top box for watching and recording TV shows over the Net, but then...silence. Now we're hearing that with the fall update, the 360's IPTV functionality is ready on our end—unfortunately, we won't be able to use it until local IPTV providers roll out Xbox support on their respective sides, and there's no telling when that's going to happen.

(And indeed, many of us—myself included—don't have a local IPTV operator at all.) Still, a lucky few will eventually be able to watch and record shows using their Xbox 360s, as well as accept gaming requests while watching a show, then come back and pick up the program where they left off once the fragging is done. Nice. (Check out Engadget for screenshots of the 360's IPTV service in action.)

America's 1st Online Mortgage Auction Web Site

If you think like you needed an immediate money but will not compromise your budget during the payment's time, NameYourLoan.com, America's 1st Online Mortgage Auction can give you the best loan offer. This website is unique because they are offering the loans through auction. The process goes this way: Once you complete the application online, certified banks and lenders compete with one another and bid lower for a chance to win your application.

Take note that your SSN (Social Security Number) will not be divulge as the website doesn't require for that. Also the best thing about this is that, the application and auction is held online so there are no annoying phone calls for you.

Give the website a chance now and who knows this website will be a great help for you.

Here's the press release of this ad:

In today’s tough lending environment, littered with deceitful lenders and cunning tactics, it’s high time for a revolutionary tool that can empower borrowers yet still benefit lenders. NameYourLoan.com has answered the need with the launch of a new online mortgage auction site designed to give consumers access to an increasing mortgage lenders network to ultimately obtain great online mortgage loans. “For centuries, auctions have been the most efficient and effective way to get the best deals in everything,” says Al Salahi, President and CEO of NameYourLoan.com. “Why not have auctions for all mortgage loan types?”

NameYourLoan.com is an online community where borrowers can easily connect with the best mortgage lenders. Lenders compete with one another in an online auction to win the borrower’s business. As numerous lenders submit loan offers, the site enables consumers to see “apples to apples”, compare mortgage interest rates and achieve the lowest rate mortgage online such as the best home equity loan rate or home refinance loan.

The site’s sophisticated computer system compiles and calculates all the information submitted by lenders (interest rates, points, fees, terms, etc.) and then ranks loan offers, based on their true worth relative to the borrower’s stated preferences (lowest rate, lowest fees or best combination of rates and fees). This simplified process gives borrowers a coherent presentation of information without having to do the math themselves.

Unlike other online mortgage comparison shopping services, only those lenders who come out at the top of the auction with the lowest interest rates and fees get a chance at the borrower’s business. Moreover, borrowers can invite their friend or relative lender to participate in the borrower’s auction quickly and without cost. Lenders who refuse to participate are most likely high priced and not the best mortgage lenders.

“Through advanced technology, we are starting to make haggling and deceptive lending tactics a thing of the past,” explains Salahi. “At the same time, we are transforming a generally stressful and complicated process into a very pleasant and easy experience for borrowers. Our multiple bid auction format, coupled with constant consumer feedback, will make it easy for us to weed out dishonest lenders—and hopefully put them out of business!”

Use of NameYourLoan.com is completely free for borrowers. Borrowers are under no obligation to accept any of the online mortgage loans offered in the auction. To protect against identity theft and fraud, site users are never asked for sensitive information, and lenders that receive multiple consumer complaints will be barred from future auctions.
For more information, visit NameYourLoan.com.

HDTVs Growing to Epic Size This Season

Jumbo sets are flooding the market this year. Sony has 20 models measuring 40 inches or larger in LCD alone, now making up 68 percent of the company's TV lineup, according to the Wall Street Journal. And Sony, like everyone else, is hoping you'll go big: At $1,273, the average 40-inch TV offers substantially better profit margin than a $763 32-inch set (in part because there is less competition in bigger sets from budget brands like Olevia and Westinghouse). The goal is obviously that you'll get sucked into jumping up a size or two when you see the difference in the stores.

Still, prices are dropping, just not as much: 12 percent on average this year for LCD sets. As well, technology continues to improve, with focus on deeper blacks, faster response times, and even lighter and thinner screens. Interestingly, Sharp says it can now fit a 42-inch screen into its old 40-inch frame because there's less wasted space around the edges.

Winners, losers and more: Breathing room

- What a day in the McCown family. As Josh McCown guided the Oakland Raiders to their second straight victory, a 34-20 win over the Denver Broncos, younger brother Luke was involved in a back-and-forth battle with the New Orleans Saints. Luke, who made a few crucial mistakes – including a pick-six in the third quarter – capped an eight-play drive with a four-yard scoring pass to Jerramy Stevens with 14 seconds left during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' 27-23 victory. Tampa Bay now is three games up on the Saints and Panthers.

- Dick Jauron will not win coach of the year honors, but has anyone won more with less this season? The Buffalo Bills have overcome tragedy, injuries and instability at quarterback and are still in the playoff mix – in the AFC.

**nice work for the Oakland Raiders..I watched this with my husband yesterday and it was a good game. More winnings to come Oakland :)

Best Cars For First-Time Drivers

You've joked about it, fretted over it, and now the moment is at hand: Junior is learning to drive, eager to roll full-speed toward the open road.

If you're like most parents, you're not entirely sure your child is ready. Will he practice safety? Will she obey your instructions? Or will they tune you out and speed around town with a carload of friends?

Let's be clear on a key point: There's no question that how you drive is more important to safety than what you drive. The stoutest, most technically advanced vehicle in the world is still a potential death trap in the hands of a reckless or impaired driver; a vintage car with 100,000 miles on the odometer can still be driven safely.

Still, when it comes to buying a car for a first-timer, many parents would agree with experts that those with impressive safety features are tops. Choosing a car with stellar crash performance and features such as mandatory air-bags and electronic stability control can boost your child's odds in an accident and preserve your peace of mind.

What you need to know when starting a business

If you are setting up a single corporation and needs a help on how to start it up without forgetting any important matter that could result as a downfall later, nevada corporation can help you with that. I've learned from the website that even the the smallest detail like meeting minutes needs to be taken down because IRS will require to see it. Can you imagine that? What if you are not taking notes of it?

This is really new with me since I don't have any business myself but this information is very important for anyone out there who wants to put up a small or big business of their own. The website even said, it doesn't matter if you are the only person in your company, you still need to take down the meeting minutes.

Here's a clipping on what the website can offer:

When you corporation is first set up you should have a meeting of directors and shareholders. You should adopt bylaws. When your LLC is set up you should adopt an Operating agreement. Sounds complicated? Don’t worry, we can help.

Quite honestly, I thought that it is not that complicated but after reading the website's information, if ever I would start my own company; I'll seek their help too.

Burglary and murder?

Police arrest 4 in Taylor case

The Miami-Dade Police Department arrested four people Friday in connection with the shooting death of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor.

Police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men as: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18. O'Brien said the charges for each had not yet been determined, but "we are talking murder and burglary."

The four men were arrested Friday in southwest Florida, about 100 miles from Miami. They will be booked into the Lee County Jail and eventually will be returned to Miami, she said. O'Brien did not have any information on when they would appear in court or if they had attorneys.

Taylor died Tuesday, one day after being shot at his home in an affluent Miami suburb during what officials said appeared to be an attempted burglary. The suspects weren't expecting Taylor to be home, police director Robert Parker said, but Taylor was recuperating from a knee injury and had returned to Miami from Washington.

WOW..they're paid GOOD

Penn State coach Joe Paterno's salary -- more than $500,000 -- finally revealed

Joe Paterno's salary is no longer one of the most closely guarded secrets in college sports. The Penn State coach will earn more than $500,000 this year.

The State Employees' Retirement System released Paterno's salary Thursday, more than a week after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that his salary and those of other top Penn State officials are public information.

Paterno was paid $427,220 in the first 10 months of 2007 -- putting his year-end salary on track to be $512,664. He was paid $490,638 last year, according to the retirement system.

"I'm paid well. I'm not overpaid," Paterno said earlier in the day, during an interview with reporters about his upcoming College Football Hall of Fame induction. "I got all the money I need."

But it's not even close to what some other big-name coaches are making. Alabama's Nick Saban is the highest paid coach at $4 million per year, while Oklahoma's Bob Stoops makes over $3 million. Ohio State's Jim Tressel, Florida's Urban Meyer and South Carolina's Steve Spurrier make upward of $2 million annually.

He tried his luck but he might not be lucky at all

Lottery winner wasn't supposed to gamble

The winner of a $1 million lottery scratch ticket may not be so lucky after all: He's a convicted bank robber who isn't supposed to gamble. Timothy Elliott faces a Dec. 7 court hearing over whether he violated his probation when he bought the $10 ticket for the $800 Million Spectacular game at a supermarket in Hyannis.

Elliott was placed on five years' probation after pleading guilty in October 2006 to unarmed robbery for a January 2006 heist at a bank on Cape Cod. Under terms of his probation, he "may not gamble, purchase lottery tickets or visit an establishment where gaming is conducted, including restaurants where Keno may be played."

He tried his luck and he won, but the thing is he is not allowed to do it. I don't know if the amount he won will be given to him or will vanish in the air..

Helio Castroneves, fiancee call it quits

I've only watched the finals of "Dancing with the Stars" and I can tell that there's something going on between Helio and his dance trainer. Hmmm, so clever of them to blow it all after the final night. I wish them both good luck though.

Clippings of the story:

Helio Castroneves won the mirrorball trophy on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," but lost his fiancee, Aliette Vazquez. Less than a day after Castroneves was declared the winner, Vazquez, a Miami-based business executive, announced she had called off her engagement to the Brazilian race-car driver.

Castroneves out-danced finalists Melanie Brown and Marie Osmond on Tuesday night's show.

"There's been a lot of rumors and a lot of stuff said, and she just wanted confirmed that they are no longer engaged. There's no animosity, there's nothing mean. Just a simple confirmation," Vazquez's publicist, Howard Bragman, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Sparks flew this season between "Cheetah Girl" Sabrina Bryan and her dance partner, Mark Ballas. Two seasons ago, Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff reportedly generated heat off the dance floor.

Depp At His Best: Sweeney Todd in Theaters December 21st

I watched the thriller of Johnny Deep's new movie Sweeney Todd and it's pretty impressive as usual. He's really a good actor. I remember how he perfectly portray as Capt. Jack Sparrow on his "Pirates of the Caribbean". The "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," for me is the most visually spectacular and action-packed movie so I know that Sweeney Todd will be as entertaining as what Johnny Depp's previous movie is.

To give you a glimpse of what the movie is all about, here's an excerpt of the plot of the movie (from Wikipedia):

Sweeney Todd returns (Johnny Deep) to London after escaping the life imprisonment of Benjamin Barker, only to find his wife Lucy (Laura Michelle Kelly) and daughter Johanna (Jayne Wisener) have suffered at the hands of the very man who had imprisoned him, Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman). With the assistance of his former landlady, Mrs. Nellie Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), Sweeney launches a plan for revenge that initially targets the individuals responsible for his imprisonment, but ultimately draws all of society in his sights.

Sweeney Todd is originally an award winning musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim. It earned its credits and popularity for sometimes now and I'm really happy that they adapted it to the big screen. This is a perfect movie treat this coming holiday season, what do you think?

You can visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site to read and watch thriller or visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.

I'm one of the NFL fan so I read this..

32 Questions: Tuned out

I'm not one to get overly worked up about suit-on-suit standoffs like the one between the NFL Network and the big cable companies, most notably Time/Warner and Comcast. It's rich people battling over fat stacks of cash, and eventually they'll come to a business arrangement that stops shafting the consumer and entices him/her to pay more for the product.

Until then, if people like Cowboys owner Jerry Jones want to talk smack and tell people to gobble up satellite dishes, well, bless him, it's a free country.

But there is one thing that bugs me about the notion that cable-wired households in large parts of America – and, specifically, in significant portions of Texas and Wisconsin – won't be receiving the feed of Thursday's compelling clash for NFC supremacy between the 10-1 Dallas Cowboys and the 10-1 Green Bay Packers.

To put it bluntly, it's a capital crime.

This made me sad

I watched this show this evening and I really thought that Mel B will win (actually she's the winner for me) but well, people voted for Helio Castroneves and Mel C. lost. But anyway, she is really a great dancer...a total performer.

Helio Castroneves voted `Dancing' champ

Race-car driver Helio Castroneves upset Spice Girl Melanie Brown to capture the "Dancing With the Stars" mirrorball trophy on Tuesday night.

"It will look so good between my two Indy 500 trophies," Castroneves said.

He and his partner, Julianne Hough, came into the finals in second place, one point behind Brown and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Both couples received perfect scores of 30 from the judges in their final dances Tuesday.

Overall, Brown was by far the more polished performer, consistently wowing the judges with her versatility and flair. But Castroneves' personality and enthusiasm, plus an effortless quickstep on his final performance, earned enough viewer votes to carry the day. His partner, Hough, also had won last season's competition, with speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

Afterward, Castroneves said that he was "shocked" by the victory: "I was not expecting it. Mel, she's an incredible dancer."

Brown admitted that losing "was a horrible feeling. I'm not going to deny it."

Something happened in Red Cross

Red Cross president ousted

Plagued by turmoil at the top, the American Red Cross ousted its president, Mark Everson, on Tuesday for engaging in a "personal relationship" with one of his subordinates. He took the challenging job just six months ago.

The congressionally chartered charity, America's foremost emergency responder, has now had five leaders in the past six years including the interim chief named to fill in for Everson.

Everson, a former corporate executive and commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, assumed the Red Cross post on May 29 as the charity sought to restructure itself and bolster its public image following sharp criticism of its response to Hurricane Katrina.

In a statement, the Red Cross said its board of governors asked for and received Everson's resignation, effective immediately, after learning within the past two weeks of the relationship with a woman on the Red Cross staff. The woman was not identified.

Report: Foreclosures to hit metro areas

Rising foreclosures will lead to billions of dollars in lost economic activity next year in the nation's major metropolitan areas, but homeowners and financial institutions have the ability to work together to contain the effects, according to a report compiled for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The report was released Tuesday ahead of a meeting of mayors from across the country in Detroit, where they hope to create policy recommendations to help address the nation's housing crisis.

Prepared by forecasting and consulting firm Global Insight, the report said weak residential investment, lower spending and income in the construction industry and curtailed consumer spending because of falling home values will combine to hold back the nation's economic activity.

"The wave of foreclosures that has rippled across the U.S. has already battered some of our largest financial institutions, created ghost towns of once vibrant neighborhoods — and it's not over yet," the report said.

What's wrong with 'should' and 'ought'

A must read for anybody who's in a relationship..

While exceedingly and commonly used, "should" and "ought" could easily be eliminated from our vocabulary. At the very least, we would all feel a lot better. Should and ought are guilt-producing words: "I should spend more time with my mother," "I really ought to lose some weight." The sayer doesn't really intend to do what he is shoulding or oughting. If so, he'd say, "I will spend more time with Mom," or "I'm going to start dieting today."

Shoulding and oughting are like giving yourself a lash on the back: You are punishing yourself with your "I should" or "I ought" statements. Your guilt is eased with your punishment, making it possible to go on with your life, while never following through with what you said you should or ought to do.

In the case of love, shoulds and oughts give us a way out when we need it, just like being picky. Looking for love is loaded with anxiety: "What if it doesn't work?" "What if I find out I don't really love her?" "What if he finds out about (you fill in the blank)?" When your anxiety screams for relief, pulling out a good old should or ought can provide your escape hatch.

I've always been fascinated with photography, I love beautiful photographs, and who's not? I know that one big factor in getting the best photo is the camera. And lately, digital camera's are doing its magic to give us the utmost satisfaction on the result. I personally like Sony Cybershot and FineFix but I've heard and I've read that Nikon cameras are good ones too.

Whichever is you prefer as long as you have the tools and accessories, you're in for a good output. With regards to Nikon Camera's, the website that I've surfed right now offers useful techniques and tips on how to take a good photo. As a beginner, this means a lot. A guide and a tip will lead you to do better everyday.

And if you're asking how much is the price, the answer is too cheap and you can afford. Nikon camera's ranges from $99 up to as much as thousands. And who says you can't afford that? That is really affordable. You know, 2 days ago I just bought me a digital camera worth $99 and I love it because the photo's I shoot are so clear.

Give it a try and I'm sure you'll love it!

'Enchanted' Casts $50M Box-Office Spell

Audiences fell under the spell of "Enchanted," a fairy-tale romance that debuted as the No. 1 movie and led Hollywood out of its recent box-office doldrums with solid business over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Starring Amy Adams as a cartoon princess exiled to real-world Manhattan by her fiance's wicked stepmother (Susan Sarandon), Disney's "Enchanted" took in $35.3 million over the weekend and $50.05 million since debuting Wednesday, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Sony Screen Gems' family reunion holiday tale "This Christmas," whose ensemble cast includes Delroy Lindo, Regina King, Mekhi Phifer and Idris Elba, opened at No. 2 with $18.6 million for the weekend and $27.1 million since Wednesday.

Hollywood had been in a box-office funk this fall, but the two movies paced the industry to a healthy Thanksgiving, with the top-12 movies pulling in $218.1 million from Wednesday to Sunday, up 6 percent from the holiday period last year.

Report: Internet Outages Could Occur By 2010 As Capacity Stalls

Booming demand for Internet services combined with insufficient infrastructure investment could leave the Web vulnerable to brown outs within three years, a study released Tuesday predicted.

Nemertes Research said Internet providers need to invest from $42 billion to $55 billion -- or 60% to 70% more than current plans call for -- to stave off interruptions to the digital economy that could happen if the 'Net bogs down. "The next Google, YouTube, or Amazon might not arise" if the situation isn't fixed, Nemertes said.

The problem, the group said, is that bandwidth usage is outpacing infrastructure build outs. While core fiber and switching/routing technology "will scale nicely," Internet access resources could soon be overwhelmed in three to five years, Nemertes said.

The trouble could be particularly acute in North America, the researchers said.

"Rather like osteoporosis, the underinvestment in infrastructure will painlessly and invisibly leach competitiveness out of the economy," said Nemertes.

Sinking liner evacuated off Antarctica

A Canadian cruise ship struck submerged ice off Antarctica and began sinking, but all 154 passengers and crew, Americans and Britons among them, took to lifeboats and were plucked to safety by a passing cruise ship.

The stricken MS Explorer finally disappeared from view Friday evening, about 20 hours after the predawn accident near Antarctica's South Shetland Islands, the Chilean navy said.

No serious injuries were reported although passengers reportedly endured subfreezing temperatures for several hours as they waited in bobbing lifeboats for a Norwegian liner that took them to a Chilean military base in the region. Officials said there were a few minor cases of hypotheria.

Xie Fuzhan, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, made the comment in an appearance Thursday at Beijing's Tsinghua University, the Xinhua News Agency said. The forecast was in line with those of other officials and private economists.

Safe cars in the spotlight

I was able to read this in the news today and it's good to know that the number of safe cars tripled. That means makers are doing their job goodly. The more safer it is, the more secure we are as a user.

Here's a glimpse of the news:

The results, which are due to be released on Nov. 15, 2007, come as auto makers attempt to boost their safety ratings by adding air bags, crumple zones and crash-avoidance electronics -- and as consumers increasingly seek out the latest safety features.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s Tundra is the first pickup truck to make the list, and Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd.'s Subaru Impreza is the first small car since stricter criteria were introduced last year. They join Hyundai Motor Co.'s Entourage minivan, Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz M-Class sport-utility vehicle and Ford Motor Co.'s Volvo XC90 SUV, which were also on last year's list.

To receive the top rating, vehicles have to be available with electronic stability control, or ESC, and get a top score of "good" in front-, side- and rear-impact crash tests. Other ratings in each category include "acceptable," "marginal" and "poor."

Vick to spend Thanksgiving holiday in rural Virginia jail

I was able to follow the story of Michael Vick, and it saddens me that he spend his Thanksgiving in the jail. Although he wouldn't be earning that if he did not violated anything.

He was a bit 'cruel' to animals. For everyone who didn't know what happened, Michael Vick was engage in Dog Fighting and here in the States its a big NO NO to practice on those inhuman act. Dogs or animals are well protected here and it's a good move and rules from the government.

In the news:

The Northern Neck Regional Jail doesn't have the comforts of Michael Vick's Georgia mansion, but at least the disgraced quarterback will get to enjoy a hot turkey dinner this Thanksgiving. And, perhaps, a non-contact visit with a loved one.

Vick unexpectedly turned himself in Monday and will be housed at the jail until his sentencing on a federal dogfighting charge in three weeks. He faces up to five years in prison.

Jail officials wouldn't discuss their new celebrity inmate, but a peek inside the facility provided a glimpse of what life for the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will be like in the coming days. And it's not exactly festive.

The jail houses inmates charged with offenses from misdemeanors to murder. About 40 of the approximately 425 current inmates are women, who are housed separately. Some inmates are confined to small cells, while others are housed in dorms.

Lions turn into Lambs

We had a good NFL game today, we watched it and we've seen how the Packers crushed the Lions.

Brett Favre sported a white T-shirt, carpenter's pants and a scruffy beard.

It was the only time he looked like just another guy on Thanksgiving.

Favre set a Green Bay record with 20 consecutive completions and finished with a season-high 381 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers' 37-26 victory over the slumping Detroit Lions.

"I threw it. They caught it," he said simply. "Nothing spectacular."

Yeah, right.

The three-time MVP put together another sensational performance that made the 38-year-old quarterback look as if he's back in his prime. Favre's seventh 300-yard game of the season matched a team mark he set in 1995.

"He's the greatest ever," Lions quarterback Jon Kitna said.

In the news today: Parade-goers enjoy balmy weather in NY

I haven't witnessed any parade yet here in the States but I would really love too if ever we'll have one in town.

Delighted, shrieking children were barely able to contain themselves Thursday as Barbie rolled past and enormous Shrek and Snoopy balloons floated overhead in the traditional Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Unseasonably balmy weather, with temperatures around 60 degrees, helped draw hordes of families to the parade route to see the floats, helium balloons, marching bands and roller-blading clowns.

Five-year-old Lauren Geiger of Freeport had no problem ticking off her favorite Macy's parade characters: Dora the Explorer, Shrek and Scooby Doo.

"And we're going to see Santa. Did you know that?," said her mother, Dorothea Geiger, eliciting a squeal.

In Detroit, drizzle, snow and temperatures in the 30s didn't deter thousands of people from lining up to watch that city's America's Thanksgiving Parade.

Portable scanner for on-the-go people

With the tough competition in the business world today, each company are always on the go to give an edge to competitors. Every second counts, that's how we are, this is how the new era evolve. With regards to professionals who are always beating up their time, ScanShell 2000N (2000NR) portable scanner is ideal for you. Why? Simply because you can bring it anywhere and everywhere.

It is powered by USB 2.0 port and will enable the user to scan and organize all of the business documents he or she needed with only a touch of a button. That's what I call a real great help. Imagine if you have hundreds of files and you needed a file right away, this scanner will do the magic for you.

This product is what they called the 'significant leap towards digital-imaging technology”. The weight of this scanner is only 14oz or 390g and it doesn't require any external adapter. The only thing you need to do is to hook it to your notebook or laptop then the application starts instantly.

Given the busy life here in the States, I would prefer to buy this one rather than spending minutes or hours looking for a certain file in my laptop.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy (advance) Thanksgiving everyone!!

Whew, I can't wait for the game tomorrow. USC is playing against Arizona State, my heart belongs to USC. I fall in love with them the first time I saw them playing.

It's not because they started as number 1 but because they're an expert on what they're doing. Though they lost 2 of their previous games, I still am an avid fan of the USC (University of Southern California) team.

Good luck for tomorrow's game Trojan's, bring home the victory!!!

Jennie Garth eliminated from 'Dancing'

She may have been the most popular girl at West Beverly Hills High School, but Jennie Garth couldn't muster enough votes to reach the final of "Dancing with the Stars."

Garth, who played Kelly Taylor on "Beverly Hills, 90210" from 1990 to 2000, was eliminated from ABC's No. 1-rated show Tuesday night. A breakthrough performance the night before, which earned her and professional partner Derek Hough their first perfect judges score of 30, wasn't enough.

Dancing in next week's final will be two-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves, Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown, and singer/performer Marie Osmond Skill was never an issue for Garth -- it was self-confidence that dogged her throughout the series, though you wouldn't know it from the couple's dazzling cha-cha-cha on Monday, which prompted judge Bruno Tonioli to emphatically score them: "Finally: 10!"

'House' of cards? No, he stacks skyscrapers

Bryan Berg spends much of his life in a house of cards. Literally. Berg, the Guinness World Record-honored "Cardstacker," has devoted his career to building houses of playing cards -- and skyscrapers, domes, cathedrals and stadiums, too.

As with any house of cards, these unbelievable creations can come crashing down at any moment. However, almost in defiance of gravity, they remain standing until Berg decides it's time to blow them all down.

Berg, 33, is one of those lucky people who makes a living from his hobby. He travels across the United States putting on shows in which he builds seemingly impossible structures out of ordinary playing cards.

Relieve yourself from muscle pain now

I and my husband are both gym goers, that’s why muscle pain cannot be avoided. One time, while Carlo was lifting weights; he accidentally injured his left elbow. When we went home, he was complaining that he’s experiencing pain so we drop by at Walgreens to look for a medicine.

I remember that whenever I would have a muscle pain in the Philippines, I always rely on liniment oils to help sooth the pain. So I did tried looking for some liniment oil, I forgot that this is the US and they don’t have it. So I then shift to finding any gel that could relieve muscle pain.

Then I found, Freeze It Gel and some other gel products. I have an attitude of comparing products before I’ll buy and I was satisfied with what I’ve read about Freeze It so I bought it. I’m glad that I chose Freeze It because it only took me (to give my husband) a massage and the Freeze It gel then my husband felt better when he gets up the following day. It might be unbelievable but it worked for us, it worked for my husband.

Freeze It can also be used for Muscle Sprains, Body Pains like Back, Shoulder and Neck Pain, Arthritis, Painful Ankle, Knee, Hip & Elbow Joints and Muscular Strains. I’ve been using this product too because of my upper back pain that would not let me sleep until I put some gel.

Recently, Freeze It is already available online, when you tr browsing the web store you can also find testimonials from other users. That's the reason why I am featuring Freeze It and take it from me, it works.

If you want to learn more about the product, browse the website at or watch the video below:

Relieve yourself from pain now, read the information in the website and start your day with a muscle pain free day!

Latest news: Vick surrenders, jailed before sentencing on dogfighting charge

Michael Vick surrendered to U.S. marshals Monday and will remain in jail until his sentencing on a dogfighting charge in three weeks.

The Atlanta Falcons quarterback is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 10 but turned himself in because he anticipates a prison term on the federal dogfighting conspiracy charge, according to a court document. Vick could be sentenced to up to five years in prison.

"From the beginning, Mr. Vick has accepted responsibility for his actions, and his self-surrender further demonstrates that acceptance," Billy Martin, one of Vick's lawyers, said in a statement. "Michael wants to again apologize to everyone who has been hurt in this matter, and he thanks all of the people who have offered him and his family prayers and support during this time."

Vick is being held at Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw until his sentencing, U.S. marshals told The Associated Press. The mixed-gender facility houses about 450 inmates.

The order filed in U.S. District Court said: "Vick has indicated his desire to voluntarily enter custody prior to his sentencing hearing. It appearing appropriate to do so, the U.S. Marshal is ordered to take custody of the Defendant immediately upon his surrender."

Are you ready for Thanksgiving?

Are you ready for thanksgiving? It's almost coming. For me and my family we've already ordered the whole meal (turkey with side dish and pie) hence my husband doesn't want me to cook. We're also planning to rent movies. Anyway, here's a recipe for a simple roast turkey:

Ingredients

* 1 10- to 12-lb. turkey, brined for 24 to 36 hours *
* 6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, room temperature
* 1 tsp. salt
* 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
* 1-1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
* freshly squeezed juice of one lemon
* freshly squeezed juice of one orange
* 1 large yellow onion, quartered
* 2 stalks celery with leaves, cut in large pieces
* 3 bay leaves
* 5 cloves garlic, unpeeled
* 2 cups chicken broth

Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 325F. Rinse the brined turkey under cold water; pat it dry, inside and out, with paper towels. In bowl, mix softened butter, 1/4 tsp. salt, the pepper, and thyme. Stir in citrus juices (not all juices will be incorporated). Rub turkey with seasoned butter, inside and out. Fill cavity with onion, celery, bay leaves, and garlic. Skewer turkey neck skin to back. Tuck drumstick ends under band of skin across tail, if available. If there is no band of skin, tie drumsticks securely to tail. Twist wing tips under back. Place turkey, breast side up, on rack in roasting pan. Insert a meat thermometer into center of an inside thigh muscle, taking care not to touch bone. Pour chicken broth in roasting pan.

2. Roast turkey 45 minutes undisturbed. Spoon pan juices over turkey. Roast 1 hour more spooning juices over turkey every 20 minutes. Cut string; spoon juices over turkey. Roast 1 to 1-1/2 hours more, spooning over juices every 20 minutes or until thickest part of thigh reaches an internal temperature of 165F and thigh juices run clear. Remove from oven; transfer turkey to serving platter. Tent loosely with aluminum foil, shiny side down. Let rest 20 to 30 minutes. Remove vegetables from inside cavity; discard.

3. While turkey rests, pour drippings from roasting pan into heatproof glass measuring cup or fat separator; skim fat. Reserve separated fat for Thanksgiving Gravy. Return drippings to pan; heat through, scraping up browned bits. Measure for use in Thanksgiving Gravy. Makes 8 servings, (plus leftovers).

4. *To brine turkey: For 10- to 12-pound turkey, thoroughly dissolve 1-1/2 cups kosher salt in 1-1/2 gallons water. (Use this formula to make enough brine to fully submerge turkey, increasing salt/water combination in proportion to size of bird.) Refrigerate the brining turkey, breast side down, and soak for 24-36 hours. Use a weighted dinner plate to needed to keep turkey submerged. Alternatively, turn bird a few times during brining.

5. Note: Scott prefers a simply presented roast turkey. To add color to your serving platter, brush halved oranges and lemons, celery, and unpeeled garlic cloves with olive oil and roast alongside the bird in a separate pan during the last half hour of cooking. Place roasted fruits and vegetables on serving platter.

Motor City named nation's most dangerous

DETROIT - In another blow to the Motor City's tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation's most dangerous city, according to a private research group's controversial analysis, released Sunday, of annual FBI crime statistics.

The study drew harsh criticism even before it came out. The American Society of Criminology launched a pre-emptive strike Friday, issuing a statement attacking it as "an irresponsible misuse" of crime data.

The 14th annual "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America" was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. It is based on the FBI's Sept. 24 crime statistics report.

The report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each crime category was considered separately and weighted based on its seriousness, CQ Press said.

How to Hack the Holidays and Score the Best Deals Online

Start shopping early. Thomas Harpointner, the CEO of e-commerce consultancy AIS Media believes that it's better to start sizing up gift options and online retailers as soon as possible. "The end of back-to-school really represents the beginning of the online shopping season," says Harpointner. "Once Labor Day ends, online retailers know that there isn't much on the calendar except Thanksgiving, so if consumers aren't already looking around they may actually end up behind."

Sign up for newsletters. According to Harpointner, one of the best ways to score early deals is by signing up for e-mail newsletters from retailers. "Online merchants understand that people are spontaneous," Harpointner explains. "So if customers receive an e-mail with an offer or coupon that matches their shopping list, there's a good chance they'll make the purchase early."

Use coupon codes. In addition to e-mail blasts, cost-conscious online shoppers can also augment their savings with coupon codes, which they enter during the checkout process at specific merchants to get a discount. Most merchants offer codes for free shipping, but with enough searching (try entering the words "coupon code" plus the name of a product or merchant on any search engine) diligent shoppers can drum up codes for merchandise discounts and even free accessories. Or check a coupon code site: Currentcodes and RetailMeNot are two of the larger hubs on the web for sniffing out these codes.

£10,000 loss to cheating husband's

**Sponsored Post**

You may want to check out this Cheap Jaguar S type car that is for sale for only £10,000.00. This car was sold by a certain wife whom was cheated by a husband. That’s another story but then the car is still a Jaguar. This price offering is really affordable compared to the price of a new one.

The car is still in perfect condition and with only the painting as the minor damage; the re-painting would only cost you a penny though. So you might want to check this out. If I live in UK then I would probably check it but US is too far. This car posting is also a warning to those cheating husbands to refrain from backstabbing your wife, or else you’ll get the sweetest revenge of your life.

Plus an affair outside the marriage is not worth to cause you your entire family. I am also a wife and I would gladly do the same thing if my husband would back stab me.

The website doesn’t just sell Used Cars but it’s also selling New Cars and is accepting Car Loans. For the detailed information regarding this offer, browse the website now and own a jaguar after!
